How to create interesting email messages

18th May 2016

Tailor your emails to tell people about things they will be interested in

This could be related to useful information about the products and services they have bought from you before, special offers or deals, tips about how to save time or money, etc.

You can attract attention with the subject line of your email. Many people will base their decision whether to read or delete your email on what is written in the subject field. Using the recipient’s name here will personalise your email. You will get more attention if your headline is compelling, but you must not exaggerate or it is likely to be treated as junk mail or spam, in which case they are deleted before even being read.

Make sure your message is worth the time it takes to read it. An email inbox is a busy place and you won’t get much attention unless you get straight to the point with what you are saying. Use succinct language which is interesting to read and encourages them to click a link that will take them to more information on your website to find out more.

Avoid confusing jargon in your text. Keep your copy simple, writing clearly so readers understand immediately what you are offering and how they can benefit from doing business with you.

People don’t want to know about you or your business. They want to know what your products and services can do for them, so take the time to understand your readers. Sell on the benefits you offer your customers, not what you can do.
